What’s involved in scar improvements?

7 June 2024

While scars are traditionally seen as marks and blemishes that you simply have to learn to live with, thanks to modern day advancements, this is no longer the case. Our scar improvement services have provided results for countless individuals, giving them the confidence to enjoy life wholeheartedly.

Whether your scar was caused by an incident, accident, condition or trauma, we understand just how self-conscious its appearance can make you feel. Here we share further details about our scar improvement services, including what to expect from treatment and post-procedure recovery.

How does scar improvement work?

Scar improvements are generally made using surgery under local anaesthetic. This typically involves the removal of the top layer of skin to improve the appearance of the affected area. Steroid injections, surgical excisions and refashioning are other treatment options that may be explored.

Treatment however always begins with a full and confidential consultation. During this initial appointment, we’ll establish the best course of treatment for your needs, determine your eligibility for the procedure, and ensure you fully understand what treatment and recovery will mean for you. At this stage, we will also identify your needs and any underlying health issues that may impact treatment.

Which scars are eligible for treatment?

Our scar improvement treatments have been called upon by people with many different scar types, including those with chickenpox scars, keloid scars and hypertrophic scars.

Whether sustained in childhood or during adult life, improving the appearance of chickenpox scars is a priority for many. Unlike other scar types, chickenpox scars are concave, but this can easily be converted to a short, flat scar that fades with time to make them less noticeable and/or easier to conceal.

Keloid and hypertrophic scars are other scar types we regularly provide great outcomes for. Associated symptoms, like itchiness and sensitivity, are also reduced with our scar improvement treatments.

Is scar improvement surgery safe?

In short, yes. While every treatment carries a certain degree of risk, these factors are analysed, determined and shared with you from an early stage.

Our service is led by Mr Ahid Abood, a fully trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has years of experience providing the highest calibre scar improvement surgery to patients with varying needs and from all walks of life.

Here at SKINSCAR Clinic, we will always advise you on the best course of treatment for your unique requirements. Procedures use modern, safe techniques administered in calm, relaxed surroundings for the very best results, an entirely personal service, and the smoothest recovery.
