Lipoma Removal Cambridgeshire

What are common lipoma symptoms?

Lipomas don’t have many symptoms, but those that typically exist are relatively easy to spot.

If you’ve noticed a growth, there are a few things you can check to see if it might be a lipoma:
  • Pain. Lipomas don’t cause a great deal of pain, but they can be marginally painful to touch, and particularly if they grow and press on nearby nerves. If they contain blood vessels, they’re also likely to be painful.
  • Location. Lipomas can be found anywhere on the body, but they will usually appear just under the skin. Check your shoulders, neck, abdomen, arms, thighs and back first, as these are the most common places in which lipomas form.
  • Size. Lipomas are usually quite small - typically less than 2 inches in diameter (but they can grow).
  • Touch. Soft and doughy to the touch, lipomas can normally be moved easily with just a small amount of finger pressure.
If you’re at all unsure about the growth you have found on your body, please seek professional advice.

What are the risk factors of lipomas?
Anyone can develop lipomas, but there are a couple of common risk factors that raise the chances of you developing a lipoma on your body:

  • Age. People aged between 40- and 60-years-old are most likely to develop lipomas.
  • Genetics. Lipomas often run in families, therefore if your parents or siblings have had them, your chances increase.

Large lipomas
Although most lipomas won’t grow any bigger than 2 inches in diameter, some do get significantly larger. These are known as ‘giant lipomas’, and might be big enough to make you feel self-conscious or have trouble fitting certain clothes.

Large lipomas can also cause more constant, noticeable nerve pain. They’re harder to remove, but it is possible via surgery in most cases.

Lipomas rarely come back once removed, therefore if you want to remove one from your body for good, please do not hesitate to contact us for a confidential consultation.
